Improving Your Eyes without Prescriptions or Surgery

January 15th, 2012

eye strainAs we age, our eye muscles weaken and as a result we’ll have blurred vision and increased chances of blindness. Genetics is also a factor in whether we’re at risk for poor vision or not because if many of our relatives suffered from eye disorders, there’s a chance we’ll struggle with the same thing.  One thing you should do is visit your ophthalmologist every few months to detect any possible eye problems which may cause blindness or poor vision. The ophthalmologist will examine your eyes for signs of glaucoma and he’ll suggest practical ways you can care for your eyes. But in between your visits, there are ways you can reduce bad eyesight with natural methods that don’t involve eye drops or surgery.

You want avoid long hours in front of the computer and television because this causes eyestrain and could lead to eye disorders such as macular degeneration and glaucoma as you get older. If you do a lot of work from your computer, take a break for a few hours and do other things or look around the room for a few minutes if you can’t take a break.  When you’re out in the sun wear sunglasses and choose sunglasses that have UV protection from the sun and that are tinted. Also try not to face the sun directly when you look up while outside.

Eye exercises are beneficial for improving poor eyesight.  First look at objects that are a few inches away from you for a few minutes then look at objects that are closer to you. This corrects myopia, a condition where you find it difficult to see things that are far way.  The second exercise is to put your finger in front of your face and stare at the finger for a few minutes. Then stare at an object that’s farther away from you.

Vitamins are also important in improving your eyesight. You can take some vitamin C supplements daily and drink citrus juices for improved eyesight. Vitamins E and B improve your vision and supplements of these vitamins should be taken in addition to the vitamin C.  And according to Holistic.com, there are some herbs that will make your eyesight better.  Bilberry has bioflavonoids that improve your night vision and gingko increases blood flow and nutrients to the retina, which is good for your eyesight.

In conclusion, relieving poor eyesight is a matter of changing lifestyle habits and using everyday things you use to achieve this goal, and you’ll have improved vision.
