Different Eye Correction Available

November 5th, 2011

eye correction surgeryA variety of eye correction is readily available in today’s time. Aside from the usual eyeglasses and contact lenses that are usually prescribed by your eye doctor, there are several other procedures that one can choose from.

As technology and time advances, a lot of eye correction procedures are now available today. The only problem is which one will fit the eye problem that you may have.

This is how vision inside your eyes work, visualizations starts when light enters the eye by passing through the cornea, the iris then controls and regulates the amount of light that passes through. After that, a light ray pass through the eye’s lenses which then bend and focuses to the retina. The retina works by converting the light into electrical impulses which is then sent to the brain via the optic nerve. The brain then produces the images.

Poor eyesight is caused by misshapen corneas, an irregular shape of the corneas result in the uneven light that will enter the eye which causes blurry vision. The most common errors resulting from this are long sightedness, short sightedness, presbyopia and astigmatism.

The most common eye correction method is LASIK or Laser Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis. This uses a precision laser to reshape the cornea permanently. Another eye correction method is PRK or Photorefractive Keratectomy, this is the most common eye correction surgery before LASIK was created. This uses an excimer laser to make the cornea steeper in long sighted people, to flatten the cornea in short sighted people and in those with astigmatism; it is needed to smoothen the irregular cornea to cure it. LASEK eye correction or Laser Assisted Sub-Epithelial KeratoMileusis is a newer surgery method. It has the combined benefits of LASIK and PRK, although the outcome is similar to LASIK but the recovery is usually longer with LASEK.

A lot of people have benefitted from these eye correction surgeries that is currently available today. For people who have vision problems, seek your doctors today and ask them what method will be best for you.
